A Little History I love to take photographs … always have. It started as a kid back in the late 70’s with my dad and his old Nikon F, developing our own black and whites in the darkroom (okay, downstairs bathroom). Then several photography classes throughout high school and college, and finally a semi-professional as an adult. I have also worked as a photographer’s assistant for one of the premier wedding photographers in Portland.
Many people have a need to express themselves creatively. For me, photography provides that outlet. It’s important for you to know that J.A.G. Photography is not my full-time job. For you, the consumer, this is a good thing. I run my photography business because I want to, not because I have to … it’s a passion. Because I have no income requirement from photography, I can keep my rates very competitive. I truly believe that if you weigh the professional quality of my work against my pricing options, you will be hard pressed to find a better alternative in this area.
My Process To me, the image capture is only the beginning of the photographic process. The post-processing work done after taking the shot also plays an enormous part. The digital age has given photographers virtually unlimited creative control over the final photo, which is why I always shoot in the RAW format, instead of JPEG.
The difference between RAW and JPEG is like baking a cake from scratch, versus buying one at the grocery store. When you make it from scratch, you have total control over all the ingredients, and can make the finished product pretty much what you want. If you buy a cake off the shelf, you are able to dress it up with a few things, but really can’t alter the basic structure. RAW is baking from scratch; more time intensive, harder work, but ultimately a much better result … and, frankly, a lot more fun! Only after the developing process is complete, do I then convert all the images to the universal JPEG format, so you can use them however you wish.
